Kneeling
2006
Sculpture to me has strong likenesses to print; as with a dry point plate the image is scratched into the surface and then inked up. In the printing the ink is then removed from the highlights to reveal the image and then put through the press. I see the creation of the clay and the patination of the bronze and iron resin as very similar; the darkness in the lowlights defines the image on the surface of the sculpture. The marks are in the clay but the ‘inking up’ highlights them, or rather highlights the areas left smooth.
